Sterilization Wraps, Latex-free, Non-sterile

• Helps to prevent wet packs- a wet pack is evidence of moisture within the sterilization chamber or the wrapped packs; the packs should be coming out dry. Wet packs are a sign that something went wrong during the sterilization process. Excess moisture can act as a pathway for microorganisms which can lead to re-contamination of the sterilized load. Wet packs can be considered non-sterile and are rejected for rework (items must be re-sterilized).
• Soft and Strong- pliable at the same time having strength properties.
• Low Lint- Low lint is important because shedding of the material can attach to the instruments themselves and therefore be considered a contamination of the sterile items. Materials that exceed a given level would not be cleared by the FDA for sterilization wrap use.
• Fluid & Alcohol Repellant- stainless steel tables in hospitals are cleaned with alcohol and some other aqueous fluids. These tables may not be completely dry when sterile packs are placed on them. By being fluid and alcohol repellent, this ensures that even if this occurs, the leftover liquids that were on the tables would not penetrate the packs (keeps them sterile).
