Cell Factories provide a large growth surface in a small area with easy handling and low risk of contamination. A Cell Factory is a stack of chambers sealed together into a single unit, sharing common vent and fill ports. Each chamber has a flat growth surface of 632cm
2. Smaller Cell Factories, including 1, 2 and 10 chambers are easily filled and emptied manually. A manipulator/stand is available to make positioning the 40 chamber Cell Factory easier.
- For industrial scale production (vaccines, monoclonal antibodies or pharmaceuticals)
- Ideal for adherent cells growth
- Can be used for suspension culture
- Growth kinetics unaltered from laboratory scale culture
- Available in 1,2, 10 and 40 tray versions for easy scale-up
- Low contamination risk
- Compact design
- Nunclon® certified surface treatment for cell attachment and growth
Easy Scale Up
Cell Factories are molded from the same high quality polystyrene with Nunclon® growth surface identical to other NUNC™ cell culture products. Scale up from laboratory experiments through pilot plant to industrial scale is straight forward when using NUNC cell culture products.
Comparison with Roller Bottles
A 40 chamber unit with a growth area of 25,280cm2 corresponds to 14 large roller bottles (1,750cm2 each). Only one filling and emptying required with the Cell Factory compared to 14 with the roller bottles. Cell Factories also provide the advantages of static culture conditions unlike roller bottles.
Space and Economics
Cell Factories require no investment for ancillary equipment such as roller apparatus apart from a manipulator used wth the 40 chamber unit. Cell Factories require about half the volume of space as roller bottles even without considering roller apparatus. The compact design of the Cell Factory saves incubator space. Example: An incubator which holds 45 roller bottles (1750cm2) contain a total growth area of 78750cm2. The same incubator will hold eight 40 chamber Cell Factories totaling 202,240cm2 or 2.6 times more growth area.
